Spitting Bull

The NBA is rife with players whose checks inflate their heads exponentially. As athletes turn pro, the instruction and philosophy emitted by their coaches fades to an annoying hum.  At least this is the story we’re used to.

Enter: Tom Thibodeau. While most players think their coach is “spitting bull,” my hometown team, the Chicago Bulls, take the phrase in another way entirely. Thibodeau’s players have embodied the ideologies that cascade from his brain, to his lungs, out of his face and onto the floor.

As Chicago leads the Eastern Conference Finals series 1-0 on the alleged miscreants in Miami (sorry, I’m biased), it is no wonder that Chicago’s work ethic is the image burned into our minds. We saw it in the form of Rose’s consistency, Noah’s passion and Taj’s highlights. Each player has been re-molded from within Thibodeau’s considerable frame. And as his mouth remains open, so will the mouths of opposing teams who are awestruck by the Bulls’ resilience.
